Human Chain Protest Held at London Trafalgar Square Over Saudi Regime’s Founding Anniversary

A human chain protest was organised at London’s Trafalgar Square on Wednesday, 23 September, by World Sunni Movement UK and World Humanity Revolution UK, under the direction of Allama Imam Hayat.

The demonstration, scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m., focused on the anniversary associated with the establishment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and expressed opposition to Saudi Wahhabism and the country’s monarchical system.

Organisers described 23 September 1932 as a “Dark Day” (يَوْمُ الظُّلُمَاتِ / আঁধার দিবস) for Islam and humanity. They alleged that the developments surrounding the establishment of Saudi rule in the Arabian Peninsula contributed to restrictions on religious traditions and the destruction of historic Islamic shrines and sacred heritage.

According to the organisers, participants sought to highlight what they regard as the importance of protecting the religious and spiritual heritage of Islam, particularly in the holy lands of the Arabian Peninsula.

The organisers have characterised Saudi Wahhabism as being contrary to their understanding of Tawhid and Risalat and have strongly criticised what they describe as a tribal monarchical system in the region.

Through the human chain at Trafalgar Square, the participating groups sought to bring their concerns before the international community and raise awareness about the preservation of Islamic religious heritage, shrines and traditions.

The claims and descriptions concerning Saudi Arabia and Wahhabism expressed during the event represent the views of the organisers and participants.

বিদেশি ঋণ ছাড়াল ১১৩ বিলিয়ন ডলার

দেশের বিদেশি ঋণ আরো বেড়েছে। গত বছরের শেষ তিন মাসে ঋণ ১৩০ কোটি ডলার বা ১ দশমিক ৩০ বিলিয়ন বেড়ে স্থিতি দাঁড়িয়েছে ১১৩ দশমিক ৫১ বিলিয়ন ডলারে, যা এযাবৎকালের সর্বোচ্চ। গত বছরের সেপ্টেম্বরের শেষে ছিল ১১২ দশমিক ২১ বিলিয়ন ডলার। আওয়ামী লীগ সরকারের পতনের সময় ঋণ ছিল ১০৩ দশমিক ৪১ বিলিয়ন ডলার। অর্থাৎ অন্তর্বর্তী সরকারের ১৮ মাসে ঋণ বেড়েছিল ১০ বিলিয়ন ডলার। গতকাল মঙ্গলবার বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের হালনাগাদ প্রতিবেদনে এ তথ্য উঠে আসে।
